Hi all

Just thought I will let everyone know that I am in the process of making a new website. Its still in its initial stages so I have still got alot of work to do
I wanted a new site because this journal is rather hard to find and doesn't rank very well in a google search.

I will still use this journal occasionally and check it for comments etc. I hope to transfer most of the journal into the new site

Here is the new address www.royalderwent.com

Real Life Stories from the ASYLUM Pt 1

  • Apr. 1st, 2010 at 10:15 AM

Real Life Stories from the ASYLUM

This is somthing I wanted to do for ages but are reliant on people willing to share their story or experience with me. Hopefully over time I will get more of these accounts and produce portfolio to share with everyone.

This piece was written by Jenny N and sent to me so that people could get a glimpse of what day to day life was like for patients and family in Royal Derwent Hospital.

My mother went in RDH 1979 and spent time there until 1995 when she passed away in RHH.

She was allowed to go out once a week and go to the local store to buy... of course smokes and chocolate. She used to get teased a lot by the public - mostly young people who just didn't get what schizophrenia was all about. She didn't talk to herself or anything like that - she just insisted all her life that she was being watched by the CIA.

It was a little strange how they handled patients up there.... if she was taking her medication without a fuss for a couple of weeks they would then deem her to be well enough to go back into the community and they sent her the Order or St Basil (before it was too demolished).

One time they did house her on site - in one of the units there. There is a row of units that are still there that patients used to be housed in. When you look at the row of units (red brick I think) she was the last one on the right - the one nearest the road (the road that runs down past Tynwald Park).

I am not sure who my real father was but it appears he may have been her psychiatrist?????

What is interesting is my first birth certificate said "... Fathers name... not necessary". In the first few pages of my Department file (as I was actually still considered fostered not adopted - even though my family had me full time) it said that it was a David that took mum to her first mental health appointment????? Then a few days later the department changed my birth certificate to state - father unknown. They would never get away with changing things like that now.

They even stole me from her literally one day. A Sister came into her home and literally stole me while she was busy. Then she rang the police and the police escorted mum to the department and she got me back. The department tried to force her into adoption but she refused and insisted that I be fostered with the plan that my foster parents can have me like their own on the condition that she gets to see me regularly - and that's the way it went. I am now 30... So many years have passed.

Mum loved those romance books, the tacky ones! She read a lot as it filled her time. Sadly before she became ill she was a fully qualified hairdresser who was doing really well. Over the years I have by chance met a few older people that used to go and get their hair cut by her. A nurse told me many stories of the horrible way patients were treated up there. Often mum used to have lots of bruises on her - she always said it was the nurses so that's sad. She described electric shock therapy to me. It sounds just awful, the one thing it did do to her was make her quiet and glazed - she had little capacity to talk or even move her body afterwards. How they hell they thought it worked I don't know???

Apparently there is an underground chamber where the electric shock therapy was done. Mum was in the wards with the pits so it must have been ward 7 because 10 I don't remember ever going to. She said that the chamber is underground.

I remember the faces of people when I went into the ward. There was one older man that stood out - he was skinny and had greyish hair and a beard - in his 40's I would guess. He seemed like he shouldn't be there, he seemed so normal but just a vegetable like he had way to much electric shock therapy. It was sad because all the patients were dressed in white and just hung around like zombies. They looked so bored. I am not even sure if they were really allowed outside because I never ever saw anyone go out there and the nurse I know said it was very rare for them to go outside. There was a lot of moaning and people there looked like they were in great mental pain. The mix of people too was odd... older people and younger people. The younger girl rocking herself in the corner looked totally out of place... she was so much younger than all the rest up there - it was mostly males. But I know the mix of people was also dangerous.

One thing I also remember is hearing lots of yelling when I used to visit her in the visiting room. There were always nurses running around frantically often with straight jackets in hand. It was a sad and spooky place. I don't think it was based on treatment as they tried to make is sound like - it was just containment - get 'these' type of people off the streets and lick them up and make them quiet.

Being up there in the ward will no doubt bring back memories I forgot about.

Although it is sad I am very relieved that my birth mother passed away quickly and peacefully - her life just wasn't a life and she just didn't cope out in the community so it would have been horrible for her to continue to live.

The bit I get stuck on is that her illness came on so quickly. One minute she was well and living a great life and then the next she was a maximum security patient and very unwell with the worst form of schizophrenia. She did say that she was poisoned by someone and that is what sent her into her state???? I am not sure what to think really. I have heard from former nurses up there that there were some very strange goings on - it has been said that some patients were used as experiments and a range of treatments both electric and medicinal were used on them. It would explain to me why mum went from well to unwell. I did meet her sister once; she said that mum was a happy person and normal until 'that day'. But she died before I had a chance to find out what she meant by 'that day".

Her family disowned her and never visited her from the day she was admitted up there – in fact her sister said they were scared to go there- .

I have a feeling that mum won't be seen - if there is such things as ghosts (which I am open to and have perhaps seen some) I am not sure mum would be a ghost - she was ready to move on from this life.

"I have conflicting feelings about the latest twist in the Willow Court story.

I have always said Willow Court should not have been sold by the government in the first place. It should have been been declared a National Park like Port Arthur and appropriately developed for visitors. That said, I'm not in favour of the council handing back Willow Court at this time. "

APIU & TEAM STRIGOI COLLABIRATE

  • Jan. 11th, 2010 at 9:52 AM

APIU Co-founders Nick Jarvis and Aiden Sullivan met with Team Members Drew, Mike and Justin from Team Strigoi who are a Launceston based paranormal team on Saturday night to explore and investigate Willow Court and Royal Derwent Hospital.

The night started around 8:00pm where we met with Team Strigoi and Bridgewater McDonald’s to escort them to New Norfolk and Willow Court. We parked at the Willow Court Motel and Nick Jarvis spoke with the private owner Haydn Pearce who allowed us access to his buildings which was a real bonus, because we hadn’t planned to explore these Wards.

After getting the keys we decided to tour Team Strigoi through the nurse’s cottage and shortly after J Ward. It was near dark when we went into Lyprenny to have a look around.

After exiting Lyprenny we took Strigoi down and showed them the rear of Admin building, Barracks, Bronte and Ward C. As we stood there by the fence at the rear of Admin, the new owner Mario came out to investigate who we were and what we were doing. We spoke to Mario for a bit and he informed us that he plans to use the bulk of the building for a private residence and hire the hall/stage area for public functions.

Our next move was to return the keys to Haydn then tour team Strigoi around the Council owned buildings on Willow Court then over to the privately owned Royal Derwent Hospital.

During the course of the night both APIU and Team Strigoi was conducting investigations in the various wards that we were exploring at the time. It was a good opportunity for APIU to test out some new equipment that had been purchased recently.

At around 1:30pm whilst in Lyprenny we decided to call it a night. Team Strigoi planned to stay there until morning the drive back up to Launceston.

It was a great night and APIU made some handy contacts especially with Investigations in Northern Tasmania. APIU stated that they were happy to invite Team Strigoi back to Willow Court when we have planned an official Investigation Organised. Team Strigoi stated that they would also extend and invite to an Entally House Investigation.

Hopefully over the next few days we will go through the footage and recordings that were collected. We will post any paranormal findings on the website.

APIU to Guide Team Strigoi

  • Jan. 7th, 2010 at 1:26 PM

Team Strigoi a Northern Tasmanian based Ghost Finding Team has enquired as to whether APIU would be able to guide them around the infamous Willow Court and Royal Derwent Hospital grounds when they are down here soon. APIU have accepted and the walkthrough will be taking place on the public roads and footpaths of the site whilst educating Team Strigoi about the sites rich History, Culture and Paranormal Encounters. If Team Strigoi would like to investigate the interior of these buildings APIU will give them the relevant contacts to organise a legal Investigation.

I’m sure Team Strigoi won’t be disappointed in what the site has to offer.

What Willow Court Does to People

  • Jan. 4th, 2010 at 5:00 PM

Over the last few days I have been talking to Marion a German Photographer she has been in Tassie for 2 years and its finally time for her to return to Germany.

In one of her emails she made a breif summary of her work and feelings towards Willow Court which really hit home for me because I also feel this way as starnge as it is (and I know I'm not the only one.)

"to be true, I feel and felt really attached to that place....difficult to get it out of my mind, thinking I am not really done here but have to go cause my flight to germany will be in about 14 days. I have to go back to germany, but I will never forget walking over broken glass and possum poo searching to find traces of the forgotten people wich were living here..."

LOL Its so true!!!

No Go for Ward C Investigation :(

  • Jan. 4th, 2010 at 12:30 PM

Looks like an APIU Ward C investigation is a no go for a while due to escalating costs. The Derwent Valley Council has stated that we need minimum insurance requirements for the utilization of this site are as follows.

Plant and Equipment insurance, Workers Compensation Insurance, Public Liability Insurance to a minimum of 10 million, Professional Indemnity Insurance.

We would also require an Occupational Health and Safety Strategy (Risk Management Plan) and a Site Security Plan.

A bit disspointing considering we have been allowed access into several National Trust buildings and other private buildings without all the insurance etc.

"AT least three developers are now thought to be interested in the Willow Court oval. A prime site on the corner of George St and The Avenue, the sportsground and adjoining buildings have been on the Derwent Valley Council's disposal list for nearly a decade. A loosening of heritage restrictions on the precinct is understood to have made the property more attractive to developers"

Oval Sale Rumours

  • Dec. 17th, 2009 at 1:26 PM

Hi all I have been hearing these rumours from various sources of the past few days. I’m not sure what the truth is. There is a closed meeting this Monday to discuss it but they will be bound to confidentiality.

I have heard rumours that the Oval has been sold already
I have heard rumours that the contract of sale hadn’t been signed
I have heard rumours that the sale may have included Wards E, D, F, G.
I have heard rumours there is 3 developers interested.
I have also heard rumours of legal action from a disgruntled developer about the DVC not going through a valid process of selling

If the Wards around the oval have been included in the sale, I would be truly pissed off and devastated.

Do all proceeds go back into Willow Court?

Have you ever walked around your neighborhood or driven past something every day and wondered “what the heck is going on there?”

Kim and Dave, with the help of Hobart compiled a list of places and homes that have everyone scratching their heads and then set out to find out “what the heck is going on there?”

This is how the road trip unfolded:

6.00am head to New Norfolk and stop at Willow Court …Matt wanted to know generally what the heck is going on with it. Still don’t know the answer!

Willow Court Power Supply

  • Dec. 9th, 2009 at 10:52 AM

I was reviewing the meeting minutes from the DVC last meeting on the 19 November 2009 and noted some key points in regards to Willow Court.

In Public Question time it was asked if work had begun to upgrade power to Barracks, Bronte and Ward C. The response was a local contractor has commenced upgrading the power supply in the existing sub station with components ordered. The council have also approved installation of another power supply on Humphrey Street

According to New Norfolk News “THE Derwent Valley Council has resumed direct control of the future development of Willow Court. Newly-elected councillor Damian Bester made Willow Court one of the key elements of his first council meeting and was able to gain enough support from his fellow councillors to see economic development group Valley Vision lose its long-held responsibility for the historic site”.

Below is a list of a handful of Paranormal encounters that APIU or others have claimed to have witnessed over the years. If you have a story or encounter you want to add please let me know and I would be more than happy to add it to the list.

Willow Court

Frescati
There are a few stories that have been told about Frescati over the years. One is apparently a man and a woman hung themselves inside the building. Another story is that there is a male hating ghost inside that throws men around.
Apparently a cleaner once went into Frescati and he was found hours later with blood all over the walls stating that he was thrown around by something he couldn't see.
Another Person believes they have seen the ghost looking back at them through a broken window. I have also heard reports that people can feel a pulse or vibe coming from the building when they touch it.

According to a Troubled Asylum In July 1853 Dr Meyer was living in Frescati for about 6 months when he decided not only to put the house for sale buts its entire contents. The Archdeacon R Davies purchased the house. Records at St Matthews Church read that three of his sons died within a few days of one another.

APIU were lucky enough to get inside this cottage a few times, and had a few experiences. Once a fellow investigator had mysterious scratches down his back, which were unexplainable. We have also managed to capture several strange noises on voice recorder and evp. There is a rather good photo someone has captured in the back shed of Frescati, it appears to be an ectoplasm, so people claim to be able to see a person in the ectoplasm. The picture is located at Australian Paranormal Investigation Facebook Group page.

Ward G (Glenora)
APIU have had many unexplained and possible paranormal experiences in this ward. It is fair to say it’s quite active. In a photo taken in Ward G we have captured what appears to be several face in a window pane, the faces are quite clear and distinct. APIU have tried to investigate this but are unable to replicate the same photo.
Apiu have also left and Article regarding the Greens working towards a formal parliamentary apology to children abused and neglected in Sate Care Willow Court. We read the article and left it there along with a voice recorder to hopefully capture any feedback. When we came back about 30 mins later we noticed that the article and been moved and turned the other way. We went back to listen to the voice recorder and we heard something physically pick up the article like when you try and pick up a flat piece of paper from the floor. There was no one else inside the ward at the time and there was also no wind. To this day we do not have any explanation apart from it being paranormal.
APIU have also heard strange noises coming from Ward G along with whistling sounds that carries a tune. APIU have also captured quite a few times and big bright Orb in a particular spot in the cell area. A medium looked at the picks and believes it is a spirit of a little girl that possibly drowned.
The Cave Clan wrote when we were in “Glenora house, I had walked off ahead of the group into the building, leaving the others behind with a single failing torch. I happily wandered around whistling a tune with my head torch beaming brightly around. eventually the others got in, and i walked off to another room. a minute later they yell out to me "was that you whistling" and I said "a few minutes ago before you were in" and they said no just now. i started to creep back towards them and then BANG the sound of a door slam! Ronin yelled "lets get the fuck out of this house NOW" so they ran and I stayed to explore more. I wanted to hear the whistle. I did a lap of the building and came back to the central office/nurses viewing room where they were standing, I was looking at cupboards labeled "Patient records" and "Enema equipment" and then i heard a whistle. This building was a great distance from any houses. but there it was, a whistle. i told myself it was a bird and kept going”.

Ward F (Franklin)
We haven’t done a lot of investigation in this ward however, there undoubtedly seems to get something very odd in this Ward. People seem to feel sick in this ward and there is a particular spot which leads to a bathroom where we have heard strange noises on several occasions, One investigator has been reported actually feeling something brush past him. Someone has uploaded a picture of a face on a window in Ward F which is located on our facebook page. This place warrants a good investigation.

WARD C (Carlton)
Many people have described Ward C as the most haunted and evil place at Willow Court if not Australia. Fellow APIU members who were lucky enough to have been inside Ward C had claimed to have got strange Red Hand marks on their clothes that won’t wash out. The have reported that the hand marks were on parts of their body which would be physically uncomfortable to accidentally do yourself. They have also reported getting strange paper like cuts over there arms which appear the next day. Many people have reported that Ward C emits a depressing and sad feeling and many people just want to huddle in a corner. People say that Ward C is a very tense and scary ward to be in. RIP investigators were extremely lucky to an authorised investigation of Ward C which was reported in The Mercury ripaustralia.com/Home_files/Sunday%20Tas%20Article.pdf
One of the strange occurrence in which RIP experienced was being locked in one of the cells and not being able to get out. After phoning someone from the local council to let them out, one of the investigators jokingly said they are coming to give us the governor’s pardon. As soon as they said this the door mysteriously opened. The council have claimed that slamming doors and other stage occurrences were normal in Ward C. It wasn’t the only trick the sprits played that day. The Mercury photographer lost all of her photos from her memory card.

Ward J
APIU have heard squeaky wheelchair like noises coming from this ward.

Admin
There is something sinister about the admin building. We often get an uneasy feeling from this ward. One person has uploaded on youtube a video of a hovering orb then a face in the board room of admin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSvwKF9NoV8

Alonnah
We have been inside this ward at night on one occasion and it was very menacing, one investigator liking it to Ward C in its demeanour. As soon as we set foot inside this Ward we instantly felt threatened and surrounded. A couple of minutes into the investigation Aiden said he felt something hit his foot like something was thrown at him. As we approached the window out to the exercise yard I heard this rather unusual whining sound, it didn’t sound like the wind so we decided to leave.

Ward E (Esperance)
quite a few people have reported either seeing or hearing something in this Ward. A person that used to live across the road from the oval precinct has claimed to see a girl about 9 or 10 with black hair in Ward E. He has stated that this girl like to play games and often hides behind the curtains at Ward E when spotted, he stated that he has seen this girl outside of Ward E around the Oval precinct. This same guy has also seen a man in a long gown hovering above the oval. This man was the same person to capture the hovering Orb on youtube.
Some uploaded a particular picture of a bathroom in Ward E on our facebook group. The next few days I get an email from a lady claiming that she was flicking through the picks when her little son asked “why is that man in the photo sad” she asked more questions and discovered that her son saw a Asian man standing in the bath looking sad.
We have also had a fir share of paranormal encounters in ward E, 2 of our investigators seen a black hovering mass near the stair well on the ground level. We have also captured footsteps, something knocking or moving the camera and very strange lights which we are currently trying to debunk.
Other people have also claimed to see a face of a girl in one of the veranda windows, this picture can be found in our facebook group.

Royal Derwent Hospital

WARD 5
The Mercury Newspaper 7/8/91 about a Male Hating Ghost inside Ward 5. The Article states that the ghost appears as a blue tinge on a white wall like a heat haze. It was reported that male staff in the ward were thrown against walls by the ghost. The Tasmania Catholic Church stated that they would perform a type of exorcism if they felt it was a serious matter”.
http://royal-derwent.livejournal.com/1094.html
APIU have been in Ward 5 many times and whilst we haven’t captured the ghost of Ward 5 we have had something respond to our questions via tapping

Ward 7
Ward & has a very sinister feeling. People that live nearby claim that they hear a scream coming from Ward 7 or a ward very close by 12am every night. APIU have heard what sounded like a very menacing laugh in the left wing of Ward 7. We have also heard a whistling noise which carried a tune.
The Cave Clan wrote about possibly Ward 7 or 10 “Outside another ward, one surrounded by a 3meter wall dug into the yard, a bit like a zoo, we spotted a figure through the window on the other side of the building, where we had just driven, and not seen anyone. we walked around that side of the building and n-oone was there. soon after, we heard a baby laugh and then the sound of children playing, again, nowhere near houses or any kids, certainly not near enough for sound to carry that far....”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf4AMZnvgrk

Ward 11
This is quite a strange ward, I get the feeling there is something in this ward which likes o play tracks on us, and I’m uncertain whether they are friend or not. Once when standing the middle section of the Ward Aiden was kneeling down to look at something on the floor. When he got up he noticed something running towards him which looked like a pair of legs, he tried to get up and was disorientated.

Ward 4 & 10
Another investigator has captured a few EVP’s in this Ward. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbyD9xBJTX4

Ward 9
Lindsey has captured a face in a window inside Ward 9
http://royalderwent.livejournal.com/1902.html#cutid8

Ward 2
ex-staff of Ward 2 have stated that Turning left at the end of (R) Wing of Ward 2, 2nd room on the right.... is one room many staff did not want to be in or near at night or early hours of the morning. Cold breezes passing through you, visuals of a ghostly female being, more scared than scary, and the taps on your shoulder or back with no one else there in that position to do it.
Another investigator has picked up on what appears to be some very good EVP’s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5nFYQBn7ow

Ward 3
Another Investigator has uploaded a video where she captured a few orb’s on camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRvEsb2P_6U

Ward 1 & 12

We have only been inside these wards a handful of times, but we feel they have potential. We have heard some very bizarre noises in these Wards each time we investigate. In both Wards we have heard what appears to be footsteps, or something creaking the floor close by.

Royal Derwent Staff Stories

  • Dec. 3rd, 2009 at 10:13 AM

This was taken off another Royal Derwent Journal that is no longer active. I wanted to re-post it on my journal as I would hate to see these priceless stories lost.

These stories are both from ex-staff at RDH.

I worked on ward 10 for a full 3 monthly rotation ... it housed basically male burnt out alcoholics, some victims of measles vaccination gone awry, and punch drunk boxers and such ... middle aged and beyond ... ward 7 was presumably the female equivalent ... i didn't work there ... wards 1 and 2 were for the true hard core criminally insane men and women ... I remember stories of Reggie baker I think it was who ripped a several inches thick plate steel door between the two wards off with his bare hands in an escape ... before medication the royal derwent was like a Dickensian bedlam... i remember a chap called Robin on ward 1 with the face of an angel and beautiful manners ... normal as you and i ... who'd killed all his family ... i remember my first day as student nurse arriving at a middle aged women’s long term lock up ward and being confronted by Jean who displayed her finger to me (half of it was missing) and told me to read up her file ... jean basically ran much of the ward, very capable with periodic strange bouts, but before medication she had killed 2 people inside the hospital (one staff one patient)... the finger had been worn down rubbing it against a sandstone wall in an airing yard, being hosed down after one in an endless string of violent episodes ... under medication she was just a middle aged capable matron who had been locked away for then 37 years ... fascinating place ... i worked there for a couple of years in the late 70's

It was Ward 5 that I worked on. At the time of the 'happenings' it was distressing, although the staff in other areas, were saying the only spirits we were seeing were the ones in the bottles!. But it was so funny when they were trying to send these particular staff to work on Ward 5 after the incident, they wouldn't go - they were chickens!!!
I continued working there on the nightshift with a guy called Danny, and I can tell you it was real. We were frequented by visitors all hours of the night, especially the little boy with the bowl haircut - dressed in clothes of the 1800's. I called Carol Atkins the supervisor over, because the toilets were being flushed one night in a day room, at the complete opposite side of the dormitories. She witnessed it, so from there, it was investigated. We had skeptics come from as far as Adelaide, but nothing could be found. It got so bad on that ward, that Management closed the ward down and boarded it it - so you tell me if they believed it! They had to relocate everyone on that ward - why would they go to the trouble if there wasn't anything. I could write a lot more, but I will leave it there. Whether you believe it or not, I don't care, because I was there and it happened!!

Possible Ward C Investigation

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 4:35 PM

The Council have asked us to prepare a written submission in regards to a potential investigation of Ward C. This is quite a positive step as every other attempt in the past was given a definate NO.

Fingers Crossed.

Council and Feds talking again WILLOW COURT

  • Nov. 18th, 2009 at 12:52 PM

According to New Norfolk News, NEW Derwent Valley mayor Martyn Evans has wasted no time in re-opening dialogue with the Federal Government on topics of local concern, particularly Willow Court. While the former regime made an aborted effort to take the Federal Government to court over lost grant funds, the new administration appears to have adopted a more friendly approach.

FRIDAY 13th REPORT (NICK JARVIS)

  • Nov. 16th, 2009 at 10:19 AM

FRIDAY 13th REPORT (NICK JARVIS)

I arrived at Willow Court about 12:30am where I met the remainder of the group who has already been there for a few hours and they debriefed me on what they have experienced that night. They informed me that Andy (Medium) had contact from several spirits that night. I was quite intrigued by this so I was keen to have a walk around with Andy to see what he could tell me about the individual Wards.

Lyrepenny
We started out in Lyrepenny as this was the Ward they felt the most presence in. Andy stated that he had been speaking with a Matron by the Name of Dorothy. Apparently this Matron was quite a large lady and didn’t like us being there and interrupting.
As soon as we walked in Andy stated that he had seen the Matron and a few further doors up he had contact with a person by the name of Dennis in a bathroom.

We investigated the rest of the building and I did not have any personal experiences nor did I witness anything paranormal, however I’m yet to review all the of the footage.

After the Lyrepenny tour, we decided to split up into 2 groups and Investigate Ward J and Ward L. My group investigated Ward J as I had never actually been inside this Ward before.
We firstly did a brief sweep of the building before starting an EVP session. The EVP session lasted about 20 mins. Unfortunately at the time we did not hear anything trying to communicate with us but we are yet to review the Voice Recording.

LONE VIGIL LYREPENNY approx 2:00am
I decided that I wanted to do a lone vigil and I wanted to do it in Lyrepenny. Aiden and Nic followed me over to Lyrepenny and waited for me outside the front entrance.
I was equipped with me Digital Camera, Video Camera and Voice Recorder.

I decided to leave the voice recorder about half way up the hallway on the ground level. After switching the voice reorder on I stated trying to communicate with the spirits of Lyrpenny in particular the matron.
I didn’t seem to get any response from the ground level, so I made my way up to the second level via the staircase facing George St. As I was walking up the stairs I noted a slight breeze coming through the window as it blew through curtains. Taking this into account I entered through the double doors into the hallway on the second level. I again tried to make contact and it wasn’t until I got a quarter of the way down the hall way I heard a large banging/thud noise, like someone slammed a large heavy door or trod on some heavy timber and it banged against the floor. As the noise sounded like a solid thud, I initially ruled out animals and possibly wind.
I instantly thought it was Aiden and Nic playing tricks on me behind the double doors, so I called out to them but received no response. Still cautious I continued on walking down the hallway. I probably walked a further 10 steps down the hall when I tried to make contact with the Matron and almost instantly I heard the thud again.
Once again I called out to Aiden and Nic as I was certain it was them but not one replied. At this time I guess it was fair to say I was on edge, I wanted to walk up to where the noise was coming from but I was certain that if I did Nic and Aiden would jump out from behind something and scare the crap out of me, so kept going. I believe I heard the thud once more before going down the other stair case facing the Barracks, collected the voice recorder and left the building.

When I got outside I immediately asked Aiden and Nic if they were inside, they told me no and said if you don’t believe us review the voice recorder as you would hear us enter the ward and our footsteps, which is true. I informed them of the noise I heard on the second level so we all went to investigate.
We tried to rule natural causes for the noise by waiting till a big gust of wind came past to see if it made the thud noise, but it didn’t. We checked to see if the large double doors could have made the noise but they were too heavy to be moved by wind and they wouldn’t shut all the way up anyway. There was nothing else that we could find that would make such as solid thud noise, so at this stage I marking it down as a possible paranormal activity and I’m 90% sure it was nothing else.

I have only briefly reviewed the voice recorder and video footage, I hope tonight that I can get the time to really go through it and also check through some of the photos I had taken.

Coincidentally I received an email after I posted my last blog on Friday about the up coming investigation of Lyrepenny. The email was from an ex staff member she stated that she had some strange and frightening experiences over the years when she worked in Lyrepenny and Ward 5.
Taking all this into account I defiantly believe there is a paranormal presence on the top level and I’m very keen to go back soon and investigate.
